Part of self care is eating and drinking for health and energy.

For this blog entry I wanted to share a recipe. It is for a kefir-turmeric, energising, gut microbiome boosting, immune building and very delicious drink called a lassi. Lassis are light and cooling yoghurt drinks served throughout the Indian subcontinent. They are an excellent source of probiotic and gut protecting food and are traditionally made by beating or whisking yoghurt with water and adding sugar or salt or even spices like cumin and pepper. In hot humid temperatures they leave your stomach and body cool. There are many variations of this drink around because Turmeric has become so popular for its anti inflammatory properties. I grew up with this spice and use it almost daily in cooking -it adds a wonderful warmth and golden glow to dishes. This drink will appear in my upcoming cookbook due to be completed this Autumn – watch this space! You can also substitute the kefir with organic natural yoghurt.

Turmeric – Kefir Lassi

  • 1 cup organic kefir

  • 1/2 tsp organic turmeric

  • 3 – 4 twists of black pepper

  • 1.5 tsp raw honey

  • 1 mini apple

  • 1/2 ripe banana

  • 1/2 tsp grated fresh ginger

  • juice of 1 organic lemon

Blend all ingredients together in a Nutribullet or blender. Drink immediately with more turmeric sprinkled over drink.
